Business & wealth
Sold your business. What next for your wealth?
Take time to decide how much of the proceeds to keep available and how much you can invest for the longer term.

Start with commitments
Sale proceeds are not always entirely available. First allow for taxes, guarantees, debt and planned spending. Ask your tax adviser and accountant to assess the relevant amounts and timing. The remaining wealth is the starting point for a financial plan.
Give each portion a horizon
Money for near-term expenses calls for a different decision from wealth intended for ten years ahead. Link your investment horizon to concrete plans and assess the interim losses you can bear. Rushing after a business sale rarely supports considered decisions.
